Performing Rights / Privacy Policy

A performing right is granted by the U.S. Copyright Act to owners of musical works to license those works for public performance. Businesses which typically license music include broadcast stations and other establishments that use music in an effort to enhance their business.

Gary Steele Publishing works with several performing rights organizations (or PROs) to help songwriters and publishers get compensated by collecting performance royalties.

In the United States, broadcasters can pay for their use of music in one of two ways: they can obtain permission/license directly from the music’s copyright owner, or they can obtain a license from ASCAP, BMI, SESAC to use all of the music in their repertoires. ASCAP, BMI and SESAC are the three performing rights societies in the U.S. and once they receive payment from the broadcasters they are responsible for compensating the music authors and publisher.

Gary Steele Publishing also works with and embraces several educational organizations in the advancement of music knowledge and training.   Contact us to learn more about special programs and usage opportunities.
