Suite Nr.1 for Solo Trombone and Percussion: 12:48. This six movement suite may be performed as a solo or with the percussion accompaniment. The suite begins with a fanfare before the main thematic material is presented in the first movement.  Pitched percussion support the second movement with a slow and lyrical melodic “Hymn” in contrast to the opening movement.  Movement three is a march, with the solo being supported by the pitched percussion. The addition of the six different size suspended cymbals gives the movement a feel of Russian string folk instruments. The “Processional” in movement four utilizes the full percussion ensemble as the accompaniment, and requires the trombone to present the development of movement one thematic material with great strength. The fanfare in movement five is the high point in the suite utilizing the unusual use of the cymbals on the timpani heads, to the natural slurring glissandos in the middle section of the movement. The final movement closes the suite with a highly technical allegro for both solo and percussion. *See live performances.
